We are Mark & Carly Photography, a husband-and-wife team based in Rockford, Illinois. We specialize in wedding photography with a crisp, clean, vibrant look, as well as portrait imagery. In addition to our photography services, we also offer clients a range of high-quality products, from prints to albums.
After we got married in 2015, we decided to focus our energy on this exciting endeavor. We began as Mark Maffioli Photography, as Mark was originally the sole artist. As we hit our stride, we found that Carly played a pivotal role in the business, and before long, she learned to use a camera and began second shooting. At the same time, we were developing our style and refining our business model. With all of this evolution, it seemed that a rebranding was in order, and Mark & Carly Photography emerged.
Whatever time in your life we are documenting for you, we are focused on providing you with a memorable photography experience. We believe it is of the utmost importance to provide you with timeless imagery, but it is equally as important that you remember the experience of creating those images; we hope that you will see a canvas print displayed in your home or a framed photo on your desk and think of that day, or maybe even that very moment, when we pressed the shutter.
It is essential for you to know who are allowing the honor of documenting such important milestones of your life. That being said, here’s a bit about us:
Mark is a deputy for the local sheriff’s office where he works as a crime scene investigator, a job that enables him to work with cameras in a very different way, if you can imagine. His attraction to cameras began at sixteen years old, when he picked up his parents’ Canon TX. Ever since, Mark has been collecting film cameras—thrift stores, estate sales, and garage sales are gold mines. He even built a small darkroom in our basement where he develops the film. Beyond photography, Mark spends quite a bit of time in our backyard, tossing the Frisbee with our Golden Retriever-Australian Shepard Mix, Tessa—you’ll probably see some photos of her on our social media pages.
Carly, the other half of our business, is an English teacher at a local high school, and she’s found that her teaching skills such as planning, communicating, and managing large groups have been enormously helpful in the professional photography arena. Carly recently developed a women’s studies course at the high school, as she is passionate about empowering women. Photography has become another way to do this, as she has recently started shooting boudoir sessions, which are a blast. Always one to challenge herself, Carly is also a part-time graduate student at Northern Illinois University, where she is closing in on a Master of Arts degree in British and American Literature.
